Get your free estimateCarrier Mini-Split Installation: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If your Carrier mini-split has failed or is on its way out, we install new Carrier-compatible mini-split systems in Orlando for an installed price that typically falls between $3,500 and $7,500 depending on the size and number of zones. We stock parts for the most common Carrier mini-split lines on our trucks, so in many cases we can have your system up and running the same day we diagnose the failure. Most owners call us after noticing the indoor unit has stopped cooling a room that used to stay comfortable from late April through October.
Take a quick walk around the unit before you call. If the indoor head is running but the air coming out is barely cool, or if you see ice forming on the copper line outside, you probably have a refrigerant leak. If the outdoor unit is completely silent while the indoor unit blows warm air, the compressor or control board may have failed. Either way, the fix usually involves replacing components that are no longer worth patching on a system beyond a certain age. We’ll tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether you’re better off putting that money toward a new installation.
Which Carrier Models This Applies To
We install and service mini-split systems across Carrier’s current and recent product lines, including the Performance Series, Comfort Series, and Infinity ductless models. The compatibility detail that matters most is the refrigerant type. Older Carrier mini-splits with R-410A refrigerant are the ones we see most often in Orlando homes right now. Newer models built for the 2025 federal refrigerant transition use R-454B, which is not backwards-compatible. If you have a pre-2015 unit, there’s a real chance you’re looking at an obsolete part that Carrier no longer manufactures. We’ll confirm the exact model and serial number before recommending any path forward.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question, our honest position is that it depends on the part. A board, sensor, or fan motor from a reputable aftermarket brand probably needs replacement within five to seven years anyway, so buying the slightly cheaper equivalent usually makes sense. Compressors are different. In a Carrier system, we’re going to push for the OEM compressor every time, because Florida’s heat and humidity mean that part is already working harder than it was ever designed to. We don’t want to install something that’ll fail on you in two years, and we don’t think you want us to either.

Signs Your Carrier Mini-Split Installation Is Failing
Here’s what we see when a Carrier mini-split in Orlando is giving up, symptom by symptom:
- Ice on the outdoor copper line or the indoor coil: This almost always means a refrigerant leak. The system drops below freezing where it shouldn’t, and the coil ices up. Left alone, the compressor eventually dies from liquid slugging back into it.
- Indoor unit runs constantly and the room never quite cools down: Often a dying capacitor, fouled coils, or low refrigerant. In Orlando’s humidity, you’ll feel the lack of dehumidification before you notice the temperature difference.
- Water leaking from the indoor wall unit: A clogged condensate drain line. Orlando’s humidity means these lines stay wet year-round, and our warm climate encourages algae growth inside the drain pan. This is the most preventable failure we see, and the one that does the most damage to walls and floors when ignored.
- The outdoor unit is completely silent while the indoor unit blows warm air: Could be the compressor, a failed control board, or a tripped breaker. If it’s the compressor on a unit past eight years old, a new installation is usually the smarter spend than a repair.
- Burning smell or humming that stops with a click: A start capacitor or contactor failing. The compressor tries to kick on, can’t, and the safety circuit shuts it down. If you keep hearing this, call us before the compressor windings burn out.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
A full Carrier mini-split installation in Orlando runs $3,500 to $7,500. The spread depends on the system size, the number of indoor heads or zones, and whether we’re replacing a failed existing unit or running new line sets and electrical. A single-zone replacement where the existing lines and wiring are still good lands at the lower end. A multi-zone system with new line sets, a pad for the outdoor unit, and additional electrical work sits at the upper end. We write that price on paper before any work starts, including the cost of the unit, the labor, the refrigerant, and any required code work.
Every installation includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it isn’t done right, we make it right. No runarounds, no fine print. Also worth knowing: we’re an independent service provider in Orlando, not a Carrier corporate entity, and we’re not owned by Carrier. We service and install Carrier equipment because it’s good equipment, not because we’re obligated to sell it.

Frankly, this is the section where I have to say: a mini-split installation is not the place for a homeowner to save money. The line set carries pressurized refrigerant, and the system runs on 220-volt electrical. One wrong connection between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit, and you can burn out a brand-new compressor before it’s ever run a full cycle. The installation manuals assume you have a vacuum pump, a micron gauge, and the training to know what a proper subcool reading looks like in Orlando’s humidity. If you don’t, you’re gambling with a $3,500 piece of equipment to save a few hundred dollars in labor.
Here’s what you can safely check before you call us. Confirm the breaker hasn’t tripped. Look for ice on the line set. Check that the air filter (if your model has one) isn’t caked with dust. Then call (850) 845-8659 and tell us what you’re hearing. Tell me what you’re hearing, and I’ll tell you what it’s going to cost – before we start. We’ll give you a real diagnosis and a written number, not a best guess.
FAQs
With proper maintenance, expect 12 to 15 years from the outdoor unit. Without it, especially with Orlando’s humidity and the way salt air moves inland near the coasts, compressor failure before year 10 is common. We see half-maintained units everywhere from College Park to the convention center corridor that die young because nobody ever cleaned the coils or checked the refrigerant charge.
Often yes, especially if the failure is a capacitor, a board, a fan motor, or a drain line issue. Those are the parts we stock on our trucks. If the compressor has failed on a unit that’s more than eight years old, we’ll give you the repair price and the replacement price side by side, and let you decide with real numbers in front of you.
For a single-zone replacement where the lines and electrical are already run, our crew usually finishes in one day. A new multi-zone system with fresh line sets takes longer, sometimes two days, and we’ll tell you that upfront when we give you the written price.
We stock the most common Carrier replacement parts for common ductless models. If a part isn’t on the truck, Orlando supply houses carry most of them same-day. If it’s a compressor or a board specific to a discontinued line, we’ll tell you exactly how long the order takes before we ask for a decision.
